From the idyllic Barnesbeg garden you can gaze down to the valley below, where the Little Rangeet river races merrily by, or cast your eyes up to pause and reflect upon the majesty of the lofty peaks of Kanchenjunga.
Planted by Christine Barnes in 1877 with predominantly Assam bushes, the garden is owned by the Goodricke Group and lies between 238 and 975 metres above sea level. The weather here is cool and pleasant and ideal for growing superb teas. As of 2007, the garden is under conversion to Organic status.
Barnesbeg has a dual manufacturing process which allows the garden to make both green and black teas. The green teas are exceptional and greatly sought-after by connoisseurs. Light, bright, with a distinctly sweet, floral aroma, this is a first-rate, rather rare Darjeeling Green tea.
To brew, put one tsp per person in a warmed pot or Mug Infuser and add freshly drawn boiling water that has cooled for 1 min. Brew lightly for 2 mins and serve without milk or sugar. Enjoy at any time of day.
